The San Mateo County Transit District is the administrative body for public transit and transportation programs in San Mateo County, California: SamTrans bus service, including Redi-Wheels paratransit service, Caltrain commuter rail service and the managing agency for the San Mateo County Transportation Authority. The Manager, Engineering Signals and Grade Crossings, will report to the Deputy Director, Railroad Systems Engineering and will be responsible for railroad signal and grade crossing systems in and around the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (Caltrain) right-of-way.
The incumbent will be responsible for oversight of all signal and grade crossing systems along the Caltrain right-of-way to assure that all systems are functioning as required, are in a State of Good Repair, and are compliant with all return-to-service requirements following all construction activities; and manage the Caltrain Grade Crossing Safety Improvement Program using and updating the Grade Crossing Hazard Analysis Report to assure that all elements of grade crossings, including signage, striping, and medians are optimized for safe operation. This position will require the incumbent to act as agency lead on matters related to signal engineering and maintenance. Responsible for managing railroad signal systems engineering services for an active Class 1 railroad with Positive Train Control (PTC) (e.g. design review, engineering standards, maintenance, and maintenance planning); oversee the review and approval of Signal As-Built drawings; develop annual and long-term signal systems maintenance plans; and update of the signal systems engineering standards.
A California Professional Engineer (PE) license is desirable for this

Compensation: The annual salary range is $107,458 - $155,813 (commensurate pay based on experience).
