Job Description
Department Description
Department 1675, Z Diagnostics, manages the execution of the Z science program at Sandia National Laboratories. Department personnel field the suite of core scientific instruments (x-ray, imaging, optical, and particle) that support the scientific program elements of the facility. The scientific members of the department serve as an interface to the experimental user community, both internal and external, conducting shots on Z. They also have the opportunity to serve as Principal Investigators executing their own shot programs. The department also runs the Z facility's Control and Monitoring/Data Acquisition System (CM/DAS) as well as engineering and developing new diagnostics. We conduct our work in a team environment, where technologists and engineers work closely with scientists to support the Pulsed Power Program on Z.

Job Description
The Z Integrated Controls and Data Acquisition, has an opening at the Bachelors or Masters degree level to play a role in the development and operations of a modern Control/Monitoring/Data Acquisition System (CM/DAS) for future ICF (Inertial Confinement Fusion) and HEDP (High Energy Density Physics) experiments on the upgraded Z accelerator, the Z-beamlet Laser Facility, and the Mykonos LTD Facility. This position will support major new initiatives to build on the enhanced power concentration capabilities of Z by developing, fielding, and operating advanced instrumentation (ex. high speed transient digitizers and the suite of x-ray, optical, and particle diagnostics) and facility control systems to support the Z experimental program. The opportunity will exist to work as a key member of a multidisciplinary team doing cutting-edge physics research and technology development that impacts stockpile stewardship and fusion energy development.
